BRITISH SONGSMITH FINLAY MORTON HEADS FROM DOWNING STREET
TO JOIN FORCES WITH VIRGINIA ARTIST SHARIF FOR AN ACOUSTIC TOUR
AT RADIO STATIONS AND SELECT VENUES THROUGHOUT THE EAST COAST
Los Angeles, CA--Scottish born songwriter Finlay Morton and Virginia’s own Sharif will hit the road for an acoustic tour in May bringing forth songs from their respective new CD’s to select radio stations and venues along the East Coast including the House of Blues Foundation Room in Boston and the Living Room in New York. At first glance the two may seem an unlikely pairing, yet a mutual admiration and similar success stories at radio brought them together organically. Morton is a musical veteran who came to find later-in-life critical acclaim for his solo career in Europe, after establishing himself as the sound engineer for the most famous address in Britain, 10 Downing Street. Sharif is a Virginian born singer-songwriter with an Egyptian/American heritage who plays catchy roots oriented pop music with a slew of TV credits to his name including Supernatural, No Reservations, South of Nowhere and 16 and Pregnant.
Both artists buck the traditional stereotype with their storied backgrounds and solid songwriting skills that reflect their hard-working artist mentality. This tour will be Finlay’s second trip playing in the U.S. His new CD Back to Basics began taking off at Triple A radio earlier this year with airplay of his single “The Circus” (*87 FMQB). Through it all Morton continues his day job covering historical events as they happen while balancing his status as a burgeoning solo musician and the extended commitment that comes along with that. Finlay’s stateside manager Dave Darus reflects upon the decision to bring Finlay over for a radio based tour with Sharif, “it’s not enough to have a song on radio. An artist has to go into the market, and support radio with live interviews and performances to connect with fans and grow their brand.”
With his new release Kisses and Lies, Sharif’s single “Dark Side of the Dawn” recently reached #89 on the FMBQ charts. Sharif was recently profiled in the Ventura County Star regarding his independent release and his willingness to do what it takes to support his life in music with day jobs that include acting, teaching guitar, and playing numerous cover gigs with an admittedly unusual highlight playing for a retirement home. “Music is the thread that brings all human experience together”, says Sharif. It is a sentiment that both men share. New US dates in Boston, MA - Montpelier, VT - New York, NY - Easton, MD - Crozet, VA and Norfolk, VA posted in the Live Dates section!
I spent the last 4 days at Michelle Clark's Sunset Sessions in San Diego. Had a great time and saw lots of really GREAT bands. Personal favourites were Stand, and Need To Breathe who were both terrific.
This is a Triple A radio conference and I attended all the panel sessions too, which were pretty informative, but got cut short just as they started to get interesting! Quote of the week came from radio programmer talking to a pushy label exec; “It's not radio's job to sell your fuckin' records, that's YOUR job!” Priceless!
Moment of the week was an intimate acoustic performance by Melissa Etheridge, which brought a tear to the eye of even the most battle hardened music biz pros! I met up with all my friends from radio who I met on my Rocky Mountain Tour last November, and cracked a few beers too!
Tour plans in USA coming soon
Finlay , and Greg Bone, played the last station and are now back in the UK. Finlay said of the tour ”Thank You Rocky Mountain Triple A Radio for the warm welcome last week, the US Acoustic RadioTour was truly an amazing experience“. Click here to see pictures from tour.
Currently an East Coast US Tour is being booked for January 2010. Full details coming soon.
His US radio tour is in full swing now. The best way to keep up with his activities is via his Video Blog on YouTube. www.youtube.com/user/finlaymorton
Braving the cold with Finlay is guitarist extraordinaire Greg Bone, and the two are out to bring the liveliest set the Rockies will see this November.
First stop was a visit to the famous Live Performance Lounge at KINK FM/Portland, OR, where Finlay and Greg recorded three songs, supported by APD Dean Kattari on bass.
A video of one song, Babe You Can't Have My Guitar, is available via the radio station and YouTube. Click here to see the video
